Getting Married in Bisbee, Arizona

by | Bisbee Buzz

The quaint little mining town of Bisbee, Arizona is a popular destination for couples looking to have a more intimate, romantic wedding celebration. Wedding parties with 100 people or less find that Bisbee wedding venues are perfect – stylish, flexible, and affordable.

Why get married in Bisbee?

Bisbee, Arizona is a romantic getaway in and of itself; with its historic downtown core containing buildings from 1908, Bisbee feels like it is from another era. The walkability of the town is an added attraction, with most of the entertainment district reachable within 10 minutes. (However, it should be noted that the town is built on the side of a hill, so many places involve climbing stairs.)

LBGTQ+ Friendly

Did you know that our little town of Bisbee, Arizona was the state’s first city to legalize same-sex civil unions, back in 2013. The Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, but Bisbee is still known as a “gay oasis” in the Southwest. Our annual Pride festival is still going strong.

Marriage Licenses in Bisbee

Bisbee, Arizona is the County Seat, and you can obtain a Marriage License at our beautiful, Art Deco courthouse. The cost is $98, and it’s good for 12 months. You both need to show up in person, with legal IDs, and be over 18 years of age.

Sorry, but the Justice of the Peace won’t marry you, but you can find many local officiants, often associated with the various wedding venues, which are listed below.

St. Patrick’s Church

For Catholic weddings, there is no better place to say “I do” than at St. Patrick’s church, built in 1916. They require at least six months notice, as well as a Pre-Cana marriage preparation program, and submission of a Letter of Freedom if either party is not a registered parishioner.

The Arizona Room

Without a doubt, the new Arizona Room in the Elks Club on Main St., is one of Bisbee’s most iconic places for weddings. Spacious, sunny, yet perfectly temperature-controlled, the Arizona Room is a popular space available all year-round.

The room can comfortably seat 48 guests, and 120 can fill it as a dance party. There’s a stage, video monitor, and professional sound and lighting. Catering options are available, including Texas Roadhouse.

The Hitching Post

For a more offbeat wedding, you might want to check out the aptly named Hitching Post, located in Bakerville, a 10-minute drive from Old Bisbee. Opened in 1947, it has a large dance floor and outdoor patio, suitable for 50 – 100 guests. And best of all, the owner and several of the bartenders are licensed officiants, so they can “hitch” you as well.
