February is a LOVE-ly month to visit Bisbee! The weather is relatively mild, with average highs ranging from 57°F to 62°F (14°C to 17°C), while lows hover between 31°F and 36°F (−1°C to 2°C). This means, mostly sunny days and chilly nights (sweater or a coat).
February also marks the start of our high season – many “snow birds” come to roost in Bisbee, leaving behind much colder climates. This means there’s lots of people in town, as well as lots of fun events throughout the month.
“Fests” Galore
On Friday, February 6, The Hitching Post presents LeFreak Fest 5, featuring the return of Venus DeMars to Bisbee. Venus DeMars is a noted trans activist and performer featured in Spin Magazine, and her style of music is heavy glam rock. Also on the bill is goth group Tanz Der Vampyr and burlesque from Sunset Seduction.
Then, on Sunday February 8, Taqueria Outlaw celebrates its third anniversary with Outlaw Fest, a music festival at the Bisbee Grand. Music starts at 5pm with Pat Gahn, DJ Gidzilla, G & G Gospel Hour, Worlds Clyde, and The Lolly Bombs (featuring Michael Ivins, formerly of the Flaming Lips). They promise “Food, Margaritas, Outlawin’, Fun!”
Finally, President’s Day Weekend offers yet another “Fest!” This one is called “Fou-Fa Fest” (short for Founding Fathers) and is just an excuse to have a bunch of Bisbee bands play together on the holiday. It features Big Demons, Moramarco!, Astra Kelly, Locomundi, and Moonflower Mirage; music ranges from world music to indie rock, with something for everyone.
Speaking of President’s Day Weekend, every year Grateful Dead tribute band The Harvest comes to St. Elmo. They’ll be getting their hippie groove on Saturday starting at 8pm, and they have an open jam on Sunday starting at 1pm.
Love Is In the Air
Of course, February 14 is Valentine’s Day, and there are several events centered around the theme of “love.” On Valentine’s Day proper, new local business Standard Waffles is having a fundraiser For the Love of Animals. There will be cocktails, waffles, and an auction starting at 5:30pm Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here. All proceeds go to the animal shelter.
For those in love, Grand Burlesque hosts their monthly burlesque show: Love, Lust, and Lassos on February 7. It promises to be a show filled with games, prizes, and lovely ladies – it’s Arizona’s #1 burlesque event. Tickets are $30 for VIP, $15, DOS. Get your tickets here.
For those not feeling the love, Sabrina Solo, the amazing one-woman band, is hosting a Broken Hearts 80s Night at the newly opened Legion Bar & Grill, Feb 7, 7 – 10pm. There will be drink specials and a prize for the best “broken hearted” costume.
And don’t worry, there’s plenty of other music, art, and culture going on every day, every week of the month in February. If you’d like the most up-to-date listings for your Bisbee adventure, please visit This Week in Bisbee. The list comes out every Tuesday, with a weekend update on Friday. See you in Bisbee!
