If you’ve never spent the Fourth of July in Bisbee, this might be the year to change that. While most towns celebrate Independence Day with a parade and fireworks, Bisbee adds its own historic flair with soapbox derby-type coaster races, mining competitions, live music, a burlesque show, and a full day of community fun that feels uniquely Bisbee. And yes, there is a parade and fireworks too!
The festivities begin bright and early with the legendary Bisbee Coaster Races. Starting at 8 a.m., racers of all ages race their handmade, gravity-powered cars down Tombstone Canyon and Main Street in a tradition that dates back more than a century. The races remain one of Arizona’s most unique Fourth of July events and attracts visitors from across the state.
After the coaster races, the celebration shifts to Warren for the annual Bisbee Rotary Club Fourth of July Parade at 11 a.m. The parade route is along Cole Avenue, filled with decorated floats, classic cars, local organizations, and plenty of patriotic spirit. Bring a chair and find some shade – get a good viewing spot early and don’t forget to hydrate! This is one of those small-town traditions that reminds you why Bisbee is such a special place to call home.
One of the most beloved Bisbee traditions is the Drilling and Mucking Competition, which pays tribute to the hardworking miners who built this community. Competitors test their strength, speed, and skill at noon, in events inspired by the town’s copper-mining past. You will find the competitors on Brewery Avenue in the Gulch of Old Bisbee.
Families looking to cool off can head to the Bisbee Community Pool at Higgins Hill, which is traditionally open free to the public during the Fourth of July holiday. With July temperatures climbing, it’s the perfect place to take a break and enjoy an afternoon swim from 12 – 4 p.m.
The Bisbee Community Market will also be taking place at Vista Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors can browse local produce, handmade goods, artwork, and other treasures while supporting local vendors and enjoying the community atmosphere.
Throughout the day, visitors can explore Bisbee’s galleries, restaurants, museums, and unique shops. As evening approaches, the celebration continues at dusk with the Fireworks Extravaganza at Vista Park in Warren, lighting up the Mule Mountains in a spectacular display that has become a cherished holiday tradition.
The fun doesn’t stop when the fireworks end. Throughout Fourth of July weekend, many venues across Old Bisbee will feature live music, special performances like the Bisbee Grand’s Burlesque show, and late-night celebrations. Whether you’re looking for a lively dance floor, a laid-back patio concert, or an intimate acoustic set, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to keep the party going all weekend long.
Bisbee has always done things a little differently, and that’s exactly what makes the Fourth of July here so memorable. Whether you’re cheering on coaster racers, watching the parade, shopping at the community market, cooling off at Higgins Hill, celebrating the town’s mining heritage, or enjoying fireworks beneath the stars, there’s simply no place quite like Bisbee on Independence Day.
